Monday Aug 24, 2020
Monday Aug 24, 2020
August 24, 2020
During this week’s Behind The Message, Pastor Daniel & Jennifer further unpack this past weekend’s sermon and prayer service discussing personal evangelism and perseverance in prayer. Two special guests join them to share their testimonies about personal evangelism and also teach us how to say a couple phrases in a foreign language. You don’t want to miss this episode of BTM!
Big Truth:
Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.
John 1:29
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
Big Ideas:
The world is sinful. Be Burdened.
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23)
Jesus is the only Gospel. Make known.
And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)
Separated from Jesus the wrath of God remains. Go.
Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him. (John 3:36)

-Consider The Big Truth from the sermon for this week found in John 1:29: The next day he [John the Baptist] saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”
-Read Exodus 12:1-13 and Leviticus 16:15-22.
What are these passages describing?
According to these passages, what does God require for there to be atonement for sin?

Monday Aug 17, 2020
Aug. 17, 2020
In this week’s Behind The Message, our Bible 2020 series kicks off the reading of the New Testament beginning with the long anticipated fulfillment of God’s covenant promises fulfilled in the incarnation of Jesus. Jennifer, Pastor Daniel, and Pastor Mike continue the discussion from the weekend’s sermon about Who Jesus is and our proper response to Him.
Big Truth:
Jesus is the Son of God
Jesus is the son of David
Jesus is the King of Israel who will reign forever.
Jesus is Savior who is Christ the Lord.
Big Ideas:
Jesus is worthy of our worship.
Jesus is worthy to be made known among all nations.
Discussion
Lead Group Members to discuss the following…
In our 2020 Bible Reading Plan, we have turned from the final pages of the Old Testament to the first pages of the New Testament. Keep in mind that while today we simply turn a few pages, during the time leading up to the beginning of the New Testament, God had paused His communication with his people through His prophets for some 400 years. God had spoken on numerous occasions and through various people, but He was now preparing to speak His greatest and most powerful Word to mankind through the Son, Jesus Christ.
-What Got You?
Ask your group members to each share a take away from Sunday’s sermon or from the BTM video that got them thinking or doing.
-In the sermon from this past weekend, Pastor Mike challenged us to see that the degree of the certainty of our faith is directly proportional to the place we give God’s Word in our lives...the more priority given to God’s Word, the more certain our faith is in the midst of uncertain times.
-Do you give priority to God’s Word...either by the time devoted to reading it or by the authority you allow it to have in guiding your life?
-Share some practical ways that you give God’s Word priority in your life.
-Read Luke 1:32-33, one of the Scripture passages that was used in the sermon this weekend.
- What were the three truths that Pastor Mike brought out from these verses?
- These truths are in direct fulfillment of God’s covenant with David in 2 Samuel 7:12-13. There were approximately 1,000 years between the time God made the covenant with David and when He fulfilled the covenant through the birth of Jesus.
- What does this teach us about God?
- Now, read Hebrews 1:1-3. Discuss how these verses give further insight into Who Jesus is and the purpose of His incarnation.
Pastor Mike closed his sermon this weekend with a challenge from the shepherd’s response to the good news of the birth of Jesus. He asked us,…”what are you going to do with the privilege God has given to you by Him having made Jesus known to you?”
-Share your answer to this question with your group members.
-Make a concrete plan for how you will steward the Good News of Jesus’ coming. Share your plan with your group members.

Monday Aug 10, 2020
August 10, 2020
During this week’s Behind The Message with Daniel & Jennifer, the conversation continues from the weekend’s sermon on Haggai. Jennifer, Pastor Daniel, and Pastor Mike discuss the importance of “considering one’s ways” and committing to the pursuit of Kingdom priorities.
Big Truth: God calls His people to pursue Kingdom priorities.
Big Ideas:
-Pursue the presence of Christ.
-Pursue building up the body of Christ.
-The fruit of kingdom pursuits will not be fully known until eternity.
Discussion Questions
-What Got You? Ask your group members to each share a take away from Sunday’s sermon or from the BTM video that got them thinking or doing.
-As a group, discuss what it means to “consider one’s ways…” How would you explain this concept to another person?
-In the BTM video, Jennifer asked an important question, “Do I create the margin needed in order to be able to consider my ways?” Consider her question. How would you answer it?
-In the sermon this past weekend, Pastor Mike identified three reasons why the Israelites were disobedient in rebuilding the temple.
-Discuss the three reasons he mentioned.
-Endless Excuses
-External Enemies
-Everyday Distractions
-Which one challenges you the most? Why? What are some practical ways to overcome these
challenges?
- Using these Big Ideas from the sermon, brainstorm some practical ways one can:
-Pursue the presence of Christ
-Pursue building up the body of Christ
-Set an appointment with yourself to spend time this week “considering your ways.” Share with your Discussion Group the date/time of this appointment. Use the time to identify what pursuits take the most of your time, energy, money, etc.
-Examine the motive of your heart behind each pursuit. Do these motives and pursuits reflect
Kingdom Priorities? If not, commit to the removal of the lesser priority.
-Plan to share with one person from your Discussion Group what you discovered as you spent time “considering your ways.”

Behind The Message EP 1 - Habakkuk
Monday Aug 03, 2020
Monday Aug 03, 2020
On this week’s Behind The Message with Daniel & Jennifer, the conversation continues from the weekend’s sermon on Habakkuk. Jennifer Laughrun, Pastor Mike Laughrun, and Pastor Daniel Broyles discuss the faith of Habakkuk and explore the “how to’s” of enduring by faith in the midst of uncertain times.
Big Truth: The righteous live by faith.
Big Ideas:
Enduring faith trusts God’s future promises.
Enduring faith remembers God’s past faithfulness.
Enduring faith worships in the present no matter what.
Discussion Questions
What Got You? Ask your group members to each share a take away from Sunday’s sermon or from the BTM video that got them thinking or doing.
Discuss Habakkuk’s two complaints from chapter 1….first, his criticism of God’s inactivity (Habakkuk 1:1-4) and second, his criticism of God’s chosen activity (Habakkuk 1:12-17). What are the underlying challenges Habukkuk (and we) face in understanding the “whys” behind God’s chosen actions in these passages (and in our own lives)? How can Habakkuk (or we) overcome these challenges
Jennifer, Pastor Mike, & Pastor Daniel discussed three ways we can react to uncertain times…discuss the three ways and identify which one is your typical response to uncertain times.
Deny the reality of the situation
Worry about the situation
Work to fix or pull oneself out of the situation
In his sermon, Pastor Mike asks an important question: “How does the righteous one endure when it seems evil is winning?” He answers the question with three Big Ideas.
Discuss the three Big Ideas. (see list above)
Share with your Discussion Group the Big Idea most difficult for you to put into practice.
Commit to rely on the Holy Spirit and personally work on that one Big Idea this week. Ask your group members to suggest practical ways that could help you to build your “spiritual muscle” in this one area…
By faith, personally pray through Habakkuk 3:16-19. Even if right now your faith does not match Habakkuk’s confident declaration of faith in these verses, ask God to give you this kind of faith.
